When Parents Grow Old

Energetic Support for Family Members
Between Responsibility, Love, and Farewell
From my own experience, I know: there comes a moment in life when we realize – our parents are growing old.
Sometimes it happens quietly, step by step. Sometimes suddenly – through illness, a hospital stay, or the nearness of farewell.
And then, many things change. Roles shift, and we often find ourselves in a new position of responsibility:
We accompany them more and more in everyday life, stay at their side during hospital stays, make emotional decisions, take over caregiving – or face the painful step of finding a place in a nursing home.
Often, all of this while we are in the midst of our own demanding life phase.
Yet this shift of roles does not always happen with clarity. Parents often cannot – or do not want to – see their own growing need for support. A tension arises between what they still believe about themselves and what has long been obvious to their loved ones. Things become especially difficult when dementia is involved. Conversations and clarity are then often no longer possible, and changes in emotional behavior may occur. For relatives, this can be both confusing and painful.
At the same time, old issues often come to the surface during this period. Everything that may have been hidden or suppressed in daily life now steps forward: unspoken conflicts, unhealed wounds, unfulfilled longing for closeness. Not rarely, this comes with a deep wish for reconciliation and peace.
And in addition: when we are deeply bonded with our parents in love, even the thought of farewell is painful. We are touched by questions of impermanence, death, and letting go – and are invited to learn to embrace these dimensions of life with dignity.
How do I deal with all of this? How can I find peace when my parents can no longer contribute to it?
Here lies the opportunity: to look within, to complete inner processes, and to release what no longer serves. And this is where I can support you.
